Van de Ven Brace Ends The Toffees' Run at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
